We are very proud that all of our magazines are printed on paper from sustainable sources as standard. We have worked with our printer colleagues to ensure the chain of custody is upheld, and we can now print the appropriate logos in all of our magazines.
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) promotes environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world's trees and forests. Environmentally appropriate forest management ensures that the harvest of timber and non-timber products maintains the forest's biodiversity, productivity, and ecological processes. FSC is recognised by major NGO’s such as WWF, Greenpeace and The Woodland Trust as the “hallmark of responsible forest management”. Forests managed according to FSC’s Principles & Criteria mean fair conditions for workers, respect for indigenous communities and local populations, and strict environmental controls.
Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) has recognised certification systems in 36 countries. Together these account for over 264 million hectares of certified forests, making PEFC the world’s largest forest and wood product certification system. PEFC emphasises a ‘bottom-up’ approach, whereby national certification systems are developed independently and come together under the umbrella of PEFC. PEFC's 'act locally, think globally' approach offers substantial benefits and contributes positively to the maintenance and enhancement of global forestry. The simple act of sourcing or purchasing a product with the PEFC label can have far-reaching positive implications, not least in terms of sustainable consumption.
Where possible we are also including a logo to remind readers to recycle their copy of the magazine once they are done with it. If we can encourage everyone to do a little to help, the bigger picture can be altered for the better.
